(PRWEB) August 10, 2006 -- Six homes throughout the greater Pasadena area, professionally designed for “real living” by ASID designers, go on public display for two days—Saturday and Sunday, October 7 and 8, 2006. General admission for the festival is $35 on the day of the event, $30 advance purchase via phone order: (800) 237-2634 or online: www.asidpasadena.org. Tickets include a map and the address of each home on the tour.
What makes the ASID Distinctive Homes Tour unique is that unlike showcase homes, the homes are inhabited and were specifically designed—some through new construction and extensive remodeling—with real living in mind. Each of the homes has been transformed with the use of color, furnishings, drapery treatments, art and accessories to accommodate the homeowners’ lifestyle needs. Real Living requires beautiful, serene spaces for family, pets, hobbies, entertaining, leisure time and even working from home.
During the weekend festival, October 7 & 8, the public will enjoy self-guided tours where they will meet the designers and be inspired by practical ideas for their own homes; shoppers will peruse a large outdoor garden marketplace of boutiques and “secret designer sources” tabletop displays; design aficionados can hear about the latest trends in home décor from on-site designer lectures; and for dining throughout the weekend, nearby restaurants recommended for by tour include the Ritz Carlton, Nicole's, Julianne’s, Buster’s, The Fresh Gourmet and Dish, (maps and location information will be provided to tour participants).
“The Tour has always been an excellent way for designers to showcase their talents,” says Kathleen Formanack, ASID Pasadena Chapter President, 2006. “But this year it’s more about getting creative with the spaces … letting the homeowners’ personalities and lifestyle needs set the tone without sacrificing good design,” says Formanack.
This year’s self-guided ASID Tour features six homes selected by committee, each with signature features and a special set of design challenges. The homes include a 1920 California Spanish home and 1923 Colonial Revival Home in San Marino; a 2003 Georgian Colonial home in La Canada; a 1907 Victorian Normandy Revival home, a 1924 English Cross Timber, and a 1960 Mid-century Traditional home in Pasadena. Featured designers are: Christine Santana, Santana Interiors; Diane Bedford, Bridge Design Studio; Ross Farrell, Ross Farrell Design; Robin Dorman, Design Concepts, Greg Parker, Parker West Interiors; and Carla Quinn with the design team of David Reaume Construction & Design.
The prestigious Pasadena Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) has offered its own take on the tour for 20 years. What started in 1986 as a “Kitchen Tour” expanded by popular demand in 1995 to include interiors. This year, the public will also have an additional day to view and enjoy the tour, shop boutiques and experience the charm of Pasadena.
