Along With Curtains Window Blinds Make For A Brilliant Design

Window Blinds can be very practical, even useful as a window treatment, used in unisons with curtains. They’ve been popular as a window decoration in homes and offices. This is because they’re extremely resilient, very easy to clean, and they filter the sunlight effectively and give you a great level of privacy.

A great variety of materials and finishes have been developed for window blinds. In order to give windows a much warmer feel, home design specialists also use curtains and valences.

There are a number of types of blinds used along with curtains these days in home design; here I will list them for you.

Wood Slat Blinds: These are blinds made from wood, hence the name. The slats of these blinds are thick. For home design variation they may be stained or even painted. The wood slat blinds can be opened and closed to allow sunlight or not.

Venetian Blinds: These are very popular, and are usually made from aluminum. They may be made from plastic as well. The slats have a slight curve and are 1,2,and 3 inches wide. Cords and a special tape called twill tape connect them.

They can be opened in a variety of ways. Venetians are very flexible, can be used in absolutely any room and are available in many colors. They close tightly, providing privacy when desired.

Woven Blinds: Contrary to the above mentioned blinds, woven blinds do not have slats that allow you to open or close them. They’re incredibly narrow and woven tightly together. This filters sunlight more effectively.

However you can let more light in by pulling a string and rolling the blind up. One drawback of Woven blinds is that you will not get as much privacy as Venetians.

The Mini-blind: This type of blind continues to grow popular in the last 20 or so years. The slats on these are much narrower than the Venetian blinds, having a width of either 1/2 or 1 inch.

They’re made of either be aluminum or PVC, and conveniently come in a wide variety of colors. They’re a type of Venetian blind, therefore can be opened in all the same ways. When closed, the appearance of the window is very flat, and smooth.

Vertical Blinds: You’ve seen these window blinds mostly in offices I’m sure, yet they are still very popular in many homes. They’re very convenient for sliding glass doors and windows that are opened and closed by being pulled to one side.

These slats are made from aluminum or PVC as well, and hang from a track across the top of the door or window. The slats can be either connected at the bottom using a chain or cord, or just hung loose.

They can also be utilized to work electronically, using a remote control to open and close them.

As you can see, window blinds can be used in a variety of ways. You cannot go wrong in your home if your window dressing of choice are blinds.
