Chainsaw Reviews - What Are Others Saying

There are two types of chainsaws on the market - gas and electric. The freedom and additional power that gas provides often influences our decision but we don't always need a gas chainsaw. So what do others suggest? Check out these chainsaw reviews.

Gas may provide additional power but the also are heavier to operate and require more maintenance than an electric chainsaw. Electric is a far better choice for the occasional user.

Electrics have their pros and cons too. They are perfect for pruning small trees, are cheap to operate, and require little maintenance. They are also lighter and safer. But remember you are tied to a cord usually about 100 foot. They are not designed to cut large trees and they are underpowered compared to their gas counterpart.

These are all excellent choices in the electric chainsaw market.

1. Craftman 34116
Made by Sears and backed by the Sears warranty this is a great choice for under $100. It weighs less than 11 pounds and comes with a 16 inch blade.

2. Makita UC 4000
Although this one costs a little more at just under $200 it offers more power than most electrics and it only weight 9 pounds and it has a 16 inch blade.

3. Remington 098031
For under $70 this is a pretty impressive machine with a 16 inch blade and weighing just 7 pounds. It's easy to operate and easy to pack around.

4. Milwaukee 6215
At just over $250 this one comes in a little higher than some of the competition but there's a reason. It's bigger, more powerful, and it's one of the largest electrics on the market.

5. McCulloch MS 1640
For under $80 you can own this small chainsaw that's perfect for trimming and pruning. It weighs just over 7 pounds and it has a 16 inch blade.

6. Makita UC120DWA
This is a cordless chainsaw that operates off a rechargeable battery. This means it's extremely convenient but it also means you are limited to battery life. It only has a 5 inch blade so the size of the job is also limited.

7. STIHL MS 280
The Stihl Wood Boss has earned a reputation as an excellent firewood cutter and saw for the farm. It has a heavy duty air filter, anti vibration technology to reduce fatigue, toolless oil and fuel cap, InteliCarb, and preheat shutter.

8. STIHL MS 390
This is a nice saw in the mid size range and it offers a decompression valve which makes starting much easier. The design of this saw keeps the chain brake and clutch housing protected from dirt. It has the Ematic system with IntelliCarb.

9. Husqvarna Model 137
This is a traditional saw with a smaller body. In fact it is the smallest Husqvarna on the market and it's designed for home owners who only need a part time saw. It's easy to start and it has a 2.2 cu inch cylinder displacement with a 2.2 hp motor. The air injection system means smoother operation and less filter changes and the vibration dampening makes it easier to handle. It has a double acting chain brake with the chain catcher which means you'll be operating nice and safely. It even comes with the 16 inch bar.

There are plenty of other good buys out there. Just a little shopping around and you'll find other chainsaw reviews worth reading. Then you can decide what's right for you.
