Geneaology Federation of Long Island Elects New President

(PRWEB) January 12, 2006 -- Joysetta Pearse, CG, a resident of Freeport, has been elected president of the Genealogy Federation of Long Island (GFLI). Joysetta is one of only 15 Board certified genealogists currently listed on the New York State roster. The Federation is comprised of 14 Long Island-based genealogy organizations that assist researchers in tracing specific ethnic or geographic origins, and the use of computers.

Joysetta Marsh Pearse was reared in the Bedford-Stuyvesant and Brownsville areas of Brooklyn, New York. She is a graduate of Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School (Brooklyn), Nassau Community College (Garden City), and Adelphi University (Garden City).

She became a Licensed Private Investigator, in 1993, after retiring from the NYNEX Corporation, where she was a Manager in Vendor Administration. Mrs. Pearse is active in community service and has devoted much of her volunteer time to the National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. (NANBPWC).

She has been a club president, governor of the Northeast District, and currently serves as governor of the International District. After attending a lecture, at Hofstra University, delivered by James Rose, Ph.D (the first person in the USA to earn a doctorate in genealogy), Joysetta, and husband, Julius were hooked on genealogy.

Under Dr. Rose’s tutelage, their expertise developed. Thereafter, Jul-Joy Associates, Inc., their private investigations business was expanded to include genealogical research. In 1994, they founded AAGS, Inc. Joysetta’s ancestral roots are in New York, Virginia, West Africa, and Ireland. Her primary ancestral surnames are: Marsh, Mooney, Keenan, Booker, Jackson, Burrell and Hunter

The Federation presents genealogy programs at local libraries and hosts an annual Genealogy Seminar. The 2006 Seminar will be held on April 8, at Stony Brook University, and features noted historian and genealogist, Tony Burroughs and DNA expert, Megan Smolenyak Smolenyak.
