Mold prevention is a must for a healthier lifestyle. Did know that there are over a hundred thousand species of mold? and some of these biological organisms can cause serious health problems in the household.
These microscopic fungi are to small to be seen by the naked eye, float around in the air, can cause serious damage to a wood structure and can thrive and grow in certain indoor conditions like behind walls where exposed to water and moisture.
Molds such as fungus mold and slime molds are most often found in areas that have high humidity levels. Bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms or damp basements (especially after flooding) are prone to mold growth and reproduction and this can prove to be a serious health and hygiene problem, if not checked immediately.
If your family members are having allergy and flu like symptoms that are impairing there health you need to seriously think of testing for mold by using a mold sampling kit with the sample being sent to a laboratory for examination If proven as toxic results you should remove yourself from the premises and have a professional clear the problem once and for all, for your health reasons.
The only solution to mold is to get rid of it once and for all by hiring a professional which may be expensive unless your home owners insurance can flip the bill. However, hope springs eternal and there are many established mold cleaning, prevention, and mold removal methods to deal with this persistent problem that really do works for do it yourself means.
Preventing Mold
Once you are rid of the mold the next step is to ensure that it will not return by checking for excessive humidity, moisture, water seepage especially in area of bathroom, kitchen and anyplace where water exists and remedy immediately.
Dehumidifiers can be very useful. Vapor steam cleaning or vacuuming with High Efficiency Particulate Absolute (HEPA) filter vacuums can reduce mold spore concentrations in damp areas and carpets, but if not done properly mold spores can remain or be spread into the air.
Basements are a prime breeding ground for mold and must be kept dry with a humidity level at about 50% relative humidity or lower to prevent mold growth.
Attics are another prime area for mold to grow and if you notice any water stains on the ceiling, or rusty nails is best to check for mold to be safe.
Use a strong solution of bleach mixed with water to kill the organism and always wear a mask so you don't inhale any of the spores.
Remember mold can be a serious health issue and is something to not take light heartedly. Always be on the lookout and be prepared to remedy at once.
