How to prepare and arrange bookshelf in your house.
You may never know that the 2-3 meters height bookshelf with loads of books on it will has the weight equal to a wood log (800-1000 Kg.!!!) Even worse, as you can imagine that a wood log may be has small space inside itself, but your cramped bookshelf may not has even single space for the air, this means your bookshelf may be much more heavy than a log. So can you imagine how much weight it has? Therefore, if you currently have many of bookshelf which I described above in your house or you have your own library in your house, especially in second or third floor of the house, then you should be very careful of them.
Generally, the floor platforms are designed to have capability to carry weight about not more than 150 Kg. per square meter. Unfortunately, the fact is, the bookshelf that I mentioned above if they contain books in full of its capacity, it should have weight around 500-1000 Kg. per square meter!. As a result, the floor has to carry weight that much over its capacity then it may start to be curved, cracked and eventually collapse. Of course, the way to resolve this problem is not I encourage you to quit reading or get rid of those books, which you may also feel uncomfortable and reluctant to do. However, there are two ways to figure out the problem.
Firstly, before buy a bookshelf, you need to decide which area in your house where the shelf will be located or which area that you are going to use for library. This in order to prepare about additional construction planning to support this function. However, in reality, it is really difficult to anticipate or planning about the area for bookshelf one the house is first built, because, sometimes, we usually buy a house that already finished in a village, or buy a second-hand house.
According to the limitation I have mentioned above, however, there is still be the way to fix the problem. You should consider to use the area in the room where has a beam to support the ability to carry weight, which normally is the area beside walls. So the area that close to walls will have more capability to carry weight than any other area of the room, because the weight will be transmitted to supported beam, then the weight transferred to pillars as quickly as possible. So this can be reduce risk that. But you must be aware that it does not mean you can put everything you want at the area beside walls because it has more capability. Because it also has maximum limit of its capability to carry weight. The result of putting weight that reach the maximum limit of the floor capability is not only the cracking or collapse of the floor, but it may expect to bring an extremely harmful disaster like an entire house collapsing, because floor, beam and pillars are connected and they can transferred the exceeded weight to each other and this may be too late for you to fix anything.
