Do you dread the entertaining burdens of the Easter season? Sure, it’s food and fun for all of your guests but for you it’s hours of strenuous labor in the kitchen beforehand and hours of thankless straightening up after everyone leaves. What if you could have a party and have fun at the same time? Keep reading for some time and sanity-saving ideas.
• You are not obligated to offer your visitors with a three course dinner! Whether you are entertaining friends or family, they will be content with company, drinks, starters, and dessert. If a full meal is a family or holiday tradition, why not organize relatives to bring their favorite dishes while you supply the coffee and a tasty cheesecake for desert? Get your family to contribute; remember, holding the party at your place shouldn’t mean that you do all the work.
• As for that delicious
cheesecake—forget about last minute drives to the grocery store!—buy a cheesecake online and have it delivered to your door the day of your party. No need to take time away from the other household preparations; order several cheesecakes in advance and scratch “dessert” off of your to do list.
• What about post-party tidying? One way to cut back on how many dishes used by your guests (in an appetizer or buffet style meal) is to use identifying markers for their glasses and plates to keep them from pulling out new ones each time they misplace their own. Many good hosts buy wineglass rings that, once placed around the base of the glass, serve to identify the glass as theirs. Likewise, distinctive plate ware will help your guests in identifying and keeping tabs on their plates.
• If you are fortunate enough to live in the warmer climates, try hosting the party outdoors. Moving the party outside will drastically cut back most of the cleaning required of you afterwards. If you happen to live in the north like myself, ask your guests to remove their boots before entering your place. This suggestion will not only make cleaning easier once your guests leave, it will also go a long way towards saving your wood floors and/or carpets from permanent party damage.
Try some of these time and energy saving suggestions and take the frustration out of hosting a party. And, before the night is through, don’t forget to sneak a bite of that cheesecake! Your guests will enjoy themselves even more if their host is also relaxed and having fun.
