September 27, 2005 -- With the price of gas on the rise in America, more families are seeking inexpensive recreational activities such as outdoor cooking and camping. Campfire Café weekly TV shows entertain viewers with demonstrations of gourmet meals prepared outdoors and cooked entirely over an open fire. Host Johnny Nix’s entertaining delivery of tips and techniques for successful open fire cooking includes practical use of the campfire, open hearth, and portable fire pit.
“ We hope the tour will remind folks that traditional open fire cooking can be a lot of fun, but that it can also be a critical skill to have in a variety of situation... ”
In January 2006, Nix takes his expertise of the lost art of open fire cooking on the road. Three-day Tour stops at KOA Kampgrounds across the country will allow family participation in hands-on cooking clinics and seminars. Nix will also hold book-signing sessions to autograph copies of the new Campfire Café cookbook, Over The Open Fire. The 264-page cookbook appeals to all ages and is considered a significant new resource, “a must-have for outdoor enthusiasts and hesitant campers looking to bring with them the culinary comforts of home”, as reviewed by Kirkus Reports.
Campfire Café Executive Producer and author of the cookbook, Pamela Alford has over 35 years of cooking experience, both outdoors and in the kitchen. Show host Johnny Nix is the nation’s leading expert on open fire cooking, sharing 25 years of experience with millions of viewers nationwide each week. Together, the two adapt recipes for open fire cooking as seen in the television episodes and featured in the cookbook.
The KOA/Campfire Café Cookin’ Camp Tour starts in January 2006 and offers one or two-day cooking clinics that will introduce open fire basics, as well as some advanced cooking techniques. From wood selection and fire control, to equipment and safety, Nix covers all related topics with hands-on, step-by-step preparation of recipes using Campfire Café’s Cowboy Cookware® and accessories made by Lodge, tour sponsor and manufacturer of the only cast iron used on the show. “We hope the tour will remind folks that traditional open fire cooking can be a lot of fun, but that it can also be a critical skill to have in a variety of situations”, says Nix.
Tour details and information can be found on-line at www.campfirecafe.com or by calling (800) 556 0414. Viewers nationwide are invited to submit their hometown KOA Kampground as a potential Tour stop in 2006. Tickets for Tour Cookin’ Camp clinics may be purchased on-line starting November 15, 2005.
