The Raj is Back

(PRWEB) February 11, 2006 -- An old photo frame, a childhood memento, your grandfather’s rocking chair, your grandmother’s wooden chest are all memoirs from your past that remind you of your roots and keep you grounded.

 “  No Fuss
In these fast moving times the need to keep in touch with our past is often compelling. It gives us a sense of belonging which helps sooth our ruffled feathers as we go through our busy lives.

In recent times the revival of the classic style of furnishing homes can be attributed to this compelling need to relate to our past and the fact that Classic English Interiors have come to represent high taste and class for a certain strata of the society.

No wonder, Classic English Interiors have become a sumptuous showcase for a distinctive style that is now as popular in India as in the country houses of England.

Recently Bangalore got its first Colonial furniture boutique East lifestyle Store, which is into designing classical English, Victorian and antique style furniture in wood.

East lifestyle Store has been in the business of furniture for over a decade. Till now the company was purely into exporting, catering to huge markets for such wood furniture in countries like United States of America, United Kingdom, France and Australia. Only recently after seeing a rise in demand for colonial furniture here did they start an outlet in India.

East’s Lifestyle store at Kormangala speaks volumes about their artistic excellence and years of experience. It reminds you of the good old times when every piece of furniture was a piece of art. The design, the finish all spell class and speak of the immense effort put in to create every single piece of furniture.

Mr. D.R. Bhasin an inventor by profession who has many firsts to his credit founded the furniture brand ‘Colonial Outpost’ over a decade ago. Always fond of colonial and period furniture Mr. Bhasin decided to make a business out of his passion, when he realized that there was no place where furniture aficionados like him could go for quality & authentic colonial furniture and reproductions.

“The elite of the world identify with the old classic style furniture. Especially in India the old homes connected with the British Raj reflect the distinct taste of that era. It is something, which differentiates them from the crowd. 'The Colonial Outpost' was born to cater to this niche segment of Colonial furniture lovers,” says Mr. Bhasin.

Over the years, as the business grew owners found a lot of customers walking in for more contemporary styles. As this demand increased, they decided to extend the business to include this segment. 'East' was born of ‘Colonial Outpost’ to cater to a wider audience who wanted both Colonial as well as Contemporary furniture.

Mr. Bhasin recalls, “ I often have customers coming in with photographs of pieces of furniture used by their grandparents or great grandparents, they see these pieces of furniture as a link to their childhood, something that reminds them of the good old days. We try to give them what they want, go as close to the original as we can so that we can help our customers relive a bit of their past every time they see the piece.”

The business, which was started by Mr. Bhasin over a decade ago to fire his passion, has with time become a passionate family business with the next generation being the driving force. A lot of effort is put in even today, to maintain the high quality standards that have been a trademark of the brand this long.

The core strength of the brand is the use of Timber as a raw material. The Furniture at East lifestyle Store is made with a variety of quality timbers such as Burma Teak, Sheesham, Rosewood and Mahogany. Plywoods, Veeners and other substitutes are used only if requested by the customer. The Company offers a guarantee of 1 year from date of delivery for any raw material or manufacturing defects.

East lifestyle Stores in Koramangala is actually a boutique where the customer can come not only to buy the designs but to customize as well. The store also caters to youngsters who prefer more contemporary “No Fuss” furniture.

East lifestyle Store also undertakes interior decoration for their customers where besides the furniture details, the ambience and accessories are taken care of and executed.
The company is also into restoring of antiques but only for their existing customers.

Since lot of effort is made to ensure that every piece turns out to be a masterpiece the manufacturing process of the furniture is quite labor intensive as almost all parts are worked on by hand. As the products are hand crafted the designers are able to achieve designs that are just about impossible to do with machines. A team of highly skilled craftsmen creates some of the finest furniture, both aesthetically and in terms of engineering.
To achieve the desired quality the owners ensure that their craftsmen are trained at the best places.

Though the brand has opened its retail outlet recently it has already become popular with the lovers of Colonial furniture and adorns many a homes across the country, from plantations as close as Coorg, to Mumbai and Palatial Bungalows in Manipur as well.
